On The Application Of "Line" In Landscape Oil Painting

The language of “line” is the major part in the production of landscape oil paintings.It also plays an important role to form the shapes of the objects,operating position,the sense of space hierarchy,the appealing of the paintings and the expression of artists' inner emotion.The art language “line” is endowed with classical approach as well as modern style.It can be directly standardized into specific artistic forms but also can convey deeper meanings of the objects.Therefore “ line” which serves as an “ artistic symbol” to present artists' subjective thinking become an indispensable vehicle in the language of landscape oil paintings.With an overview of landscape oil paintings in China and western countries,we are obsessed with the aesthetic feeling of art.There are various features regarding the use of lines in Chinese and western countries.The former mainly expresses the inner feelings;the latter tends to draw objective images.Therefore “line” not only is the technique in paintings but also a way for artists to express subjective world.Thus,it is essential to carry out researches on “line” in landscape oil paintings.The first chapter analyzed the background when using the “line” in landscape oil paintings.The second chapter re-examined unique aesthetic values and emotional expressions regarding art of “line” in oil landscape paintings after an overview of “line” in landscape oil paintings.The third chapter compared the characteristics of “ line” in Chinese and western landscape oil paintings.Moreover a comprehensive description of similarity,difference and values in landscape oil paintings was explained.In the fourth chapter,the author undertook independent thinking towards the application of “ line” in landscape oil paintings with the combination of individual original work on the basis of previous theory.Furthermore a new expression form of line was put forward to combine practice with theory and fully understand the important function of “line”in the production of landscape oil paintings.
