A Reprot On The Translation Of The Sentient Machine:the Coming Age Of Artificial Intelligence (Part One)

This is a translation project report on the excerpts from Part One of The Sentient Machine: The Coming Age of Artificial Intelligence written by a famous technologist and inventor whose name is Amir Husain.When the original text was selected,no any Chinese versions had been found on the Internet.As a technical text,the book contains many technical terms,and the sentence structure is relatively complicated,which makes it difficult to understand and translate.However,unlike the general texts of science and technology,the language in this book is comparatively simple and vivid,and the discussion is easy to follow.The book can provide a solid foundation for the general public to make people understand where things are head.The Sentient Machine: The Coming Age of Artificial Intelligence aims at a profound and well-constructed overview of artificial intelligence in today's world.Among them,the first part of the author's translation is Part One with 11,000 words which tells the story of Husain and artificial intelligence,and describes AI's development and related professional knowledge.During the translation,the author always keeps the differences between English and Chinese in mind,and selects reasonable translation methods and techniques to make the translation more corresponding to the expression habit of the target language.In this report,the author selects specific cases from the perspective of Contrastive Studies of English and Chinese,and elaborates the application of translation techniques such as conversion of words,separating-combining method and change from positive voice to passive one;the paper focuses on the problems encountered in the translation and gives solutions,such as dealing with the terminology and division of longer sentences,etc.;the author also summarizes the experience in translating technical texts: search relevant literature data and consult some professionals in order to ensure the accuracy of the translation.After the translation,the author realizes that it is not easy to become a qualified translator,which is necessary to master translation theory,improve bilingual conversion ability,expand knowledge reserve and improve professional quality.
