This is a translation project report on the theme of the development of Artificial Intelligence.The source text of this translation project is chapter one(People Thinking About Computers)in part one of the book When Computers Can Think: The Artificial Intelligence Singularity by Dr.Anthony Berglas from the University of Queensland.The book introduces whether computers could think,how intelligent computers will be in the future in natural selection and effective approaches to deal with the extremely intelligent computers.The excerpt mainly deals with the people's hypotheses and understanding of computers,the development of AI and the existing problems.Based on Nida's equivalent theory and Reiss' s classification of text type,the translator reproduces the information of the ST in plain and prose language so as to achieve faithfulness,expressiveness and equivalent style of the ST.Literal translation is used as the principal translation method,combined with several translation techniques in order to solve the problems encountered in the translation process.This translation project mainly introduces artificial intelligence,which provides theoretical and technical instructions for AI development and advanced technology development in China.
