Meng Zi Shi Shuo is a representative work of Huang Zongxi's concentrated expression of his ideology through interpretation of classics. On the occasion of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the academic circles began to criticize the post-Yangming School'sempty talk about mind, and exaggerating style of study, and the trend of practical academic began to develop. This is the most profound historical background of the Meng Zi Shi Shuo.Huang Zongxi's responsibility for the continuation of Confucianism, his personal thinking on practical issues, and his efforts in the study of the history of thought are the subjective conditions for the Meng Zi Shi Shuo.In Meng Zi Shi Shuo,Huang Zongxi continued the Song and Ming philosophers' discussion on the relationship between Qi and Xin,the order of moral practice and the relationship between accomplishment and inquiry, and put forward many unique opinions. He was deeply influenced by his teacher Liu Zongzhou, and his thoughts maintained the characteristics of “Paying attention to integration”.In the relationship between Qi and Li,Huang Zongxi attempted to bridge the division of Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism in the structure of “Li and Qi” by expounding “the combination of Li and Qi”,and elucidated the relationship between Li and Qi in “one thing and two names” and weaken the Li's metaphysical transcendence.Huang Zongxi constantly emphasizes that what people bear is “the harmonious Qi”,which reflects the Li of pure perfection. This makes his Li-Qi theory less of the heavenly principle's moral mandatory, but the affirmation of human subjectivity is very prominent. In the relationship between Xin and Li,Huang Zongxi inherits the “Li is in the Xin” ontology thoughts that have existed since Lu and Wang's theory of mind through the proposition of “the Xin is the truth”.In the relationship between Xing and Qing,Huang Zongxi adhered to Mencius' s theory of good nature, while giving “emotion” a more original position, and advocated “Xing and Qing are one thing” and “Xing is in the Qing”.Huang Zongxi advocated that “the Daoxin is the Xin of the human being”“Xing and Qing share everything,Like in terms of Ti and Yong,Dong and Jing,Yifa and Weifa, and so on.” It has reversed the situation that some neo-confucianists pay too much attention to conceptual analysis and neglect the effort of moral practice.Huang Zongxi further put forward the thought of “the moral activity is the noumenon”,and “you must engage in ethical activities to Comprehension the ontology”,so that the neo-confucianism thoughts in Meng Zi Shi Shuo showed a tendency to attach importance to the moral activity and practice. In terms of the absorption and expression of neo-confucianism thoughts,Meng Zi Shi Shuo has the characteristics of supplementing the disadvantages, adapting and integrating. In addition,Huang Zongxi's views on the current situation and his reflection and criticism on the social system and reality have also deeply influenced his interpretation of Mencius, which makes the Meng Zi Shi Shuo bear a profound brand of the times, and embody a kind of theory style which is applied to the world.
