On The Omission Strategy In Simultaneous Interpreting

With the continuous development of reform and opening up,China has been appearing at global meetings more frequently,and simultaneous interpretation has been playing an important role.Interpreters need to complete several tasks at the same time and they have to finish interpreting when speakers end their talks.Interpreters should ensure that they do not only listen to the source language,but also understand and interpret it without fully listening to the speaker so that the audience can understand what the speaker says.Interpreters are under great pressure.It is impractical to interpret all speeches without any omission for students.So we need to use omission strategies.This practical report chooses an inaugural speech by Donald Trump as a research material.This thesis focuses on the study of omission types.Based on Gile's Effort Model,the necessity and reasons of using omission strategies have been elucidated.The author has redefined the definition of omission.Meaningless and unimportant information can tbe omitted if all important information has been reserved.The author compares the interpretation output of simultaneous interpreter and the written translation to find out the application of omission in this paper.Finally the author analyzes the practical application value of these strategies and further subdivides them into some types.This thesis aims at helping interpreters to fully understand as well as flexibly and normally use omission strategies so as to conduct simultaneous interpretation leisurely.
