The text of this English-Chinese translation is selected from Chapter Three and Four in Brown Girl,Brownstones,which is the first novel of Paule Marshall,a Bajan American female writer.It is a literary novel mainly about a Bajan American girl named Selina.The writer described her growing experience and life between her and her families in Brownstone.Since the novel was published in 1959,there was no Chinese version till now.This is also the reason that this novel is chosen as the material of my E-C translation.The translation is guided by Skopos theory and aims to discuss the translation strategies in literature about black women.There is much content about internal emotion,dialogues and condition description in the text.At the same time,Marshall presents too much Black English as the frequent oral expression of the characters.These are all difficulties in the process of translation.To solve these problems and improve the readability of the translated text,different translation strategies are selected according to different conditionsThe report is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction of the translation task.This part will introduce the resource of the text,the writer and brief content of the novel.The second part is the process of translation.This part will introduce the analysis of task and preparation job,the specific translation process,and revision after translation.The third part will focus on difficulties in the process of translation.This part will be divided into three aspects--words,sentences and paragraphs.For the material is a literary novel,the principles of literary translation should be abided by.The fourth part is case analysis.Some representative examples will be chosen to explain the employment of specific translation strategies under the guidance of Skopos theory.The fifth part is conclusion of the gains and insufficiencies in this translation practice.
