This is a report based on the translation of Brown Girl Dreaming(excerpts)written by Jacqueline Woodson. This book is Jacqueline's memoir of her childhood in Ohio,South Carolina and New York.Jacqueline is a famous author of books for children and adolescents and has won many awards.Reasons for choosing this books are:(1)it is a poetry collection which is quite rare among children's literature;(2)it has won many awards including the National Book Awards, suggesting its quality. The writer did some preparation before translation such as searching for information about the author and the book and analyzing stylistic features, made use of paper dictionaries and online resources during translation, and asked her supervisor and classmates to proofread the translation. However, difficulties were identified during translation as there are rapid and unstable world shifts. To tackle these difficulties, the writer used Paul Werth's Text World Theory for the reason that it deals with the interaction between readers and authors. The writer particularly used concepts such as deictic sub-worlds,attitudinal sub-worlds,epistemic sub-worlds,and quantity to deal with her translation. After translation and analysis,it is found that this theory is particularly useful for translating poetry related to the complicated point of view shifts and change of story worlds.
