| International commercial mediation,as an effective means of settling international commercial disputes,is steadily gaining importance and attention over the world.In recent years,the United Nations and Asian-Pacific countries have held relevant conference discussing the promotion of mediation in solving commercial disputes.Introducing the latest international research and academic works into China on this issue to assist the current study of domestic law experts is of great value and significance for China to solve commercial disputes with neighboring countries in the construction period of the Belt and Road Initiative.The report selects an empirical research paper on mediation as the object of practice and summarizes the E-C translation methods and strategies of this academic paper.First,the report describes the translation task.The source text comes from an American law review-Washington and Lee Law Review.It falls into the category of informative text,so its translation values objectivity and preciseness and can provide reference for the domestic legal community.Then,the second chapter mainly discusses the translation process.Including searching for information about the original writer and the background,reading parallel texts on mediation,setting translation amount for each day,preliminary proofreading,post-translation proofreading and revision.Chapter Three elaborates on the various translation methods and strategies the author chooses to translate the selected material under the guidance of skopos theory and cites examples to illustrate:at lexical level,the author focuses on the translation of proper nouns,jargon in the source text and the adoption of conversion for nominalization;at syntactic level,the author translates the sentences with passive structure by converting them into active voice;and for long and complex sentences,the author employs translation methods of sequencing,reversing and division;at discourse level,the coherence rule of the skopos theory is valued while translating the text.The last chapter summarizes the author’s reflection and experiences of this translation task.Finally,under the guidance of skopos theory,the report reaches the conclusion that the source text of this translation task is an academic paper belonging to informative texts.While translating,the translator should focus on the purpose of the translation,that is,the successful transmission of the views and analysis of the source text to the readers.Appropriate translation methods and strategies should be employed flexibly by the translator to insure the readability and the coherence of the target text. |
