A Project Report On Interpreting For The Disassembly Of ND31 Machine In Kimberly-Clark Nanjing Plant

Interpretation is not only a translation work,but also a complex interpersonal communicative activity that involves two languages,three parties(or more)and multi-directional contents.As an important branch of interpretation,engineering project interpretation is featured with strong professionalism,high accuracy and timeliness of information output.During the project of dismantling the machine of ND31 production line in Kimberly-Clark(KC)Nanjing Plant,the reporter conducted on-site interpretation which require abundant English vocabulary in machinery field as well as a basic understanding of the installation and disassembly principles of mechanical equipment.This project report describes the obstacles and challenges encountered by the reporter in detail,furthermore,tries to put forward reasonable and effective solutions combining with the triangular model of interpreting proposed by Seleskovitch and Lederer.During the one-month project,the reporter encountered various difficulties,such as the lack of understanding of terminology,the noise and dusty environment on site,the strong Indian English accent of engineers,etc.After analysis and reflection,the reporter summarizes the following interpretation strategies:first,I suggest interpreters make full preparations before the start of the project,so as to make up for the lack of expertise to the greatest extent.Second,trying to familiarize with the linguistic features of engineering site interpretation by observation and initation method as well as interpretive method at the beginning of project,and iminerse us in the language environment as soon as possible,and then flexibly handle interpersonal relationships and on-site conflicts.Third,insisting to accumulate encyclopedia knowledge through daily life.
