A Report On The Project Of Interpreting For "The Belt And Road" Economic And Trade Delegation

In the interpreting project on "the Belt and Road",which ran from July,25,2018 to July,27,2018 in Jiangsu Province Construction Group,the reporter undertook the task of interpreting speeches delivered by Chinese and Zambian representatives.She completed her job smoothly and received favorable feedback.However,the reporter encountered four types of difficulties in this interpreting process.The first difficulty that the reporter was confronted with was the omission of toponym and misinterpretation of political and economic terms caused by the unfamiliarity of the "Belt and Road" terminology.The second difficulty that the reporter was faced with was the structural disorder and unnecessary repetition in long sentences interpretation.The third difficulty that the reporter was confronted with was the uneven energy allocation and obscure data treatment in the economic and trade data interpretation.The fourth challenge that the reporter encountered was the confusion caused by Zambian accent.In regard to the misinterpretation of "the Belt and Road" terminology,the reporter should adopt transliteration and make a glossary.In regard to the difficulty in long sentences interpretation,the reporter should segment the structure and integrate the content.In regard to the inaccuracy of the economic and trade data interpretation,the reporter should understand the overall discourse information and adopt some note-taking methods.In regard to the confusion caused by Zambian accent,the reporter should make full preparations before interpreting,make anticipation during interpreting and study the characteristics of Zambian accent.The lessons and experience that the reporter has obtained in this interpreting project will provide MTI students and interpreters engaging in "the Belt and Road" interpreting project with reference.
