2019 International Conference On Mechatronics And Automation Whisper Interpretation Practice Report

This thesis is a practice report on English to Chinese whispered interpretation.From August 4th to 7th,2019,the 16th International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation was held in Shangri-la Hotel,Tianjin.In this report,the interpreter provided whispered interpreting service for participants from Harbin Engineering University in the session on signal and image processing at 10 am on the 7th.After the meeting,the interpreter transcribed the audio recording of the practice and summarized the problems and solutions in the process.This thesis mainly analyzes the problems encountered by interpreter in practice in terms of source language reception,information decoding and target language output,including the problem of the accent of non-native speakers,the questions caused by engineering technical terms,long and difficult sentences and noise interference in the whispering simultaneous interpretation process.It describes the characteristics,causes and solutions of the above problems,including the summary interpretation,inference,prediction,and omission.At last,the interpreter summarizes the experience gained from this practice.This practical report comprehensively discusses the problems encountered by student interpreters who lack relevant professional knowledge and background,and comes up with appropriate methods to solve the problems at interpreting skills level and the non-interpreting skills level.It is hoped that this thesis can provide some references for the beginners and the peers engaged in whispered interpretation.
