Science fiction is a literary genre that is gaining increasing attention in recent years. In the history of science fiction, anthologies have played an important role in more than one occasion. As a joint endeavor contributed by many,an anthology is often complex and multi-layered in its structure. This report focuses on the translation of the headnotes,an inconspicuous but essential component of anthologies,of the book The Road to Science Fiction Volume Three:From Heinlein to Here. The report begins with a chapter introducing science fiction and anthology.By outlining the basic facts around the two concepts and the source text, the author points out the significance of the study in terms of both science fiction studies and the research into anthologies. The next section sets the theoretical framework:the model of text analysis by Christiane Nord.A pre-translation text analysis enables the translator to design an overall translation strategy. In the next chapter, the author discusses what translation problems will be on different levels by way of illustration.Chapter Three explains the problems and provides corresponding solutions. The problems are:proper nouns and technical terms on lexical level;passive sentences and long sentences on syntactical level;and cohesion and discourse level. The case studies on particular problems might underlie a general solution to the translation problems of anthology headnotes. The Author gained valuable experience in the translation project and this report will hopefully be a reference for further studies.
