A Report On The Consecutive Interpreting From The Perspective Of The Interpretive Theory

Entrepreneurship has been a focus of all countries.However,due to a high failure rate and difficulties of corporate management,many young people do not have courage to try.Therefore,it is of great significance for them to listen to ideas of successful corporate founders.This report takes a lecture on entrepreneurship,which was delivered by Yu Minhong at Shanghai Jiao Tong University,as the interpreting task.The author aims to finish the consecutive interpreting and analyze the case from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory.The report consists of preparation before the interpreting,interpreting process,difficulties in interpreting and solutions to difficulties.The Interpretive Theory is the first theory in the interpreting studies.It describes the interpreting process as three stages,namely comprehension,de-verbalization and reformulation.The triangle model is formulated on this basis.According to the Interpretive Theory,interpreting is interpretation and the object of interpreting is the sense rather than verbal signs.Therefore,the task of the interpreter should be the equivalence of sense.During the interpreting of this speech,the author finds four difficulties as follows:language vagueness,run-on sentences,redundancy and culture-loaded words.To solve them respectively,the author presents four solutions:explicitation,syntactic restructuring,omission and explanation of the cultural information.Language vagueness means that the speaker sometimes has a vague expression.The solution to this difficulty is explicitation.Syntactic restructuring is used to solve the difficulty of run-on sentences.Redundant information is common in oral expression,so the solution to it is omission.Explanation of the cultural information is to solve the difficulty of culture-loaded words.These solutions seek to realize the equivalence of sense in the interpreting.It is hoped that these solutions could be helpful in speech interpreting.There are limitations of the thesis.First,the interpreting is simulated,so the author cannot receive the response from the audience.Second,the author still needs to study the Interpretive Theory.
