English Translation Report Of CUEB Campus News

As China’s comprehensive national strength continues to increase,its external exchanges continue to increase.At the same time,Chinese universities are also developing rapidly,and many universities have carried out international exchange and cooperation projects.Therefore,the official English website of the campus has become an important window for foreign scholars and international students to have a better understanding of the university.As the most common language in the world,English also plays an increasingly important role in campus news translation.This report is based on the author’s practice of English translation of campus news at the Capital University of Economics and Business.The translation work has last for half a year from March 2018,totaling more than 12,000 words.The translation content includes campus activities,international conferences,cooperation and exchanges,etc.As it is the first time to translate campus news,the author inevitably encountered some problems.For example,the translation speed is slow at the beginning,and the language is not accurate.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory of Peter Newmark,the author mainly analyzes the translation case from two aspects.For the translation of the headline,the strategy of omission and changing tense are mainly adopted.Abbreviations and punctuations are used frequently to stress the news topic.For the translation of phrases,especially for some specific phrases of Chinese,the author uses in-text annotation,conversion of part of the speech and liberal translation.Through the translation task,the author has a deeper understanding of the type function of the campus news and improves the translation speed and quality.This report is divided into four chapters.The first part is the introduction of the translation task,the second part is the description of the translation process,the third part is the translation case analysis,and finally the conclusion.
