A Report On C-E Translation Editing Of Campus News From The View Of Communicative Translation

As international communication advances,the educational cooperation between colleges or universities in China and beyond is getting closer.In this process,schools begin to construct foreign language websites as a platform for sharing campus news and trends.Take the Capital University of Economics and Business as an example,the Publicity Department and the MTI Education Center are in charge of the news on the website.In March 2021,the author participated in the translation project of campus news and is responsible for translating and editing with other partners.In the practice,the author found that while translation decides the output of language and content,translation editing,the last step in the workflow,also plays an important role in controlling language quality,and information presentation,among others.Moreover,the translation team has shortcomings in language or comprehension abilities,calling for further analysis to improve its capacity.This report overviews the project of campus news translation from the view of Peter Newmark’s theory.It analyzed problems and difficulties in the process of campus news editing.According to Newmark’s typology and translation methodology,campus news is classified as informative text and is suitable for communicative translation.The communicative translation emphasizes the faithfulness and expressiveness of target texts and attempts to reach the same feeling of reading among readers of both the source language and target language.On this basis,the author selected several cases from the news and re-edit them from the framework of comprehension,expression,and adaptation.In terms of word meaning,logic,and other content,the author used conversion,annotation,and abridgment,among others,to reach the goal of communication.In the analysis under the guidance of communicative translation,the author found that translators and editors should reach an agreement on translation theory based on different texts and use it to decide on translation and revision strategies.In this way,a quality,efficient workflow of campus news can be achieved.
