Translation is the act of converting one language information into another language information accurately and fluently. However,in some cases, due to factors like language habits and cultural differences, deficiencies in translation are inevitable. Therefore, when there is no equivalent component of some components in the original language for some reason and there is no proper expression means, the translator can use other means to convey the information and appropriately compensate the translation, which is translation compensation. The source texts are taken from the Finance and Economics section of the well-known magazine The Economist.Since these texts were written with insinuation and black humor, which requires not only high command of language skills but also cultural background for a translator,it is not an easy task to translate them on an equal base. Therefore, adopting translation compensation is an indispensable part in the translation process,so that readers can better receive the information that the author wanted to convey and understand it in a more accurate way.Several compensation techniques are analyzed in this report.Seen from semantic level, translation compensation can be divided into vocabulary compensation, grammatical compensation and discourse compensation.Seen from cultural level, translation compensation can be divided into contextual amplification and specification. The author summarizes the translation practice, and concludes that: first, translation requires both the acquisition of language and different culture;second, the translator needs to grasp translation ability, techniques and background information;third, translation theories should be combined with translation practice to produce better target texts;fourth, attitude determines everything.Whatever the translator's personal competency is,it is essential for the translator to take the translation work seriously.
