This thesis studies on the author’s interpreting practice in agricultural foreign aid training programs organized by Yuan Long Ping High-Tech Agriculture Co.,Ltd.During the programs,the author was not only responsible for the translation and interpreting work,but also undertook the tasks of program management and overall planning.Therefore,the interpreter’s subjectivity based on the advantage of her dual role was crucial for improving the interpreting quality and promoting the smooth progress of training.Interpreter’s subjectivity plays its role throughout the whole interpreting process and its core is the subjective and initiative consciousness.In agricultural foreign aid training programs,the three influencing factors of interpreter’s subjectivity include bilingual competence,professional skills and psychological activities and it is manifested through preparation before interpreting,application of non-verbal signs and coordination based on the dual role.In the programs,there are four interpreting settings,namely,ceremony interpreting,lecture interpreting,visit interpreting and daily interpreting.Each of them has its distinctive characteristics,resulting in the difference of influence caused by the three factors.The author introduces the specific measures she took to reduce the negative influence of’the three factors and analyzes typical cases to illustrate how she exerted her interpreter’s subjectivity and what the the positive effects were.Through reviewing her practice experience and relevant evaluation results,the author summarizes her gains and shortcomings.She also proposes the following suggestions for students working in similar scenarios in the future on the exertion of interpreter’s subjectivity,expecting to help them further improve the interpreting quality:1.Earnestly make the preparation before interpreting:the focus should be accumulating basic professional knowledge and encyclopedic knowledge;attention should be paid to the understanding of characteristics and requirements of the speakers and the audiences;inspection on the auxiliary devices for interpreting should be carried out in advance.2.Appropriate non-verbal signs,such as gestures,tones,eye contacts,pictures and real objects should be applied to regulate the atmosphere or explain complicated concepts.3.The advantage of the role of assistant should be taken for coordination when there are conflicts between faithfulness and interpreting effects. |
