Analysis Of Interpretation Methods For Chinese Culture-specific Expressions Under The Guidance Of Optimal Relevance

With the development of economic globalization and regionalization,conferences which aim to promote international economic cooperation and exchanges have emerged in an endless stream.Speech interpretation plays a very important role in the success of such conferences and the success of interpretation largely depends on the interpreter's pre-interpretation preparation.However,many Chinese culture-specific expressions often occur in the speeches while preparing before interpretation,which becomes a major point of difficulty in pre-interpretation preparation and interpretation.In order to overcome the difficulty and to produce more successful speech interpretations,practices in interpretation of Chinese culture-specific expressions were made by the author during her internship,herein this report was provided.The practical materials of the report have been selected from the interpretation tasks during the internship at the CCPIT Hunan Sub-council,including excerpts from speeches made by Chinese leaders in the exchange meeting of the Fifth Congress of the CCOIC Hunan Chamber of Commerce and a series of the Hunan Economic and Trade Promotional Activities,hosted by CCPIT Hunan Sub-council in the fourth quarter of 2017.Based on these practical materials,the report classifies the Chinese culture-specific expressions into two categories;the case studies of which have been analyzed in accordance with optimal relevance.This study also explores effective methods such as free interpretation,literal interpretation,omission and generalization,which could guide successful interpretation of Chinese culture-specific expressions through adequate preparations before interpretation.Throughout the analysis,the report finds that optimal relevance can effectively guide the interpretation of Chinese culture-specific expression.Under the guidance of optimal relevance,through analysis of a specific text,various interpretation methods could flexibly be used to achieve maximum contextual effect with minimum inferential effort,so as to achieve the best communicative effect in utterance communication while interpreting.
