A Study Of Chinese-English Simultaneous Interpretation Strategies Of Refutation From The Perspective Of Relevance Theory

With the increasing frequency and scope of China's foreign exchanges,the Regular Press Conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,as an important platform for announcing information related to China's important diplomatic activities and elucidating China's foreign policy work,has become an important means of foreign publicity and communication.Therefore,the interpretation of Regular Press Conference should be an important part of the interpretation study,which is worth further and comprehensive study in order to better guide the interpreting practice.The interpretation of Regular Press Conference in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is different from other types of interpretation.Its theme is serious,its words are sensitive and sharp,and its content is policy oriented.Statements with different opinions should be refuted or corrected immediately.Refutation is widely used and frequently used in the Regular Press Conference in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.Therefore,the interpretation study of Refutation is of great value.In Relevance Theory,discourse communication is an ostensive-inferential process,and interpretation is a two-round ostensive-inferential process,which involves the speaker,the interpreter and the target language audience.Applying Relevance Theory to interpreting can help the interpreter to solve the linguistic and cultural problems in the process of simultaneousinterpretation,and improve the accuracy of simultaneous interpretation by seeking optimal relevance through the ostensive-inferential mode.On the basis of Relevance Theory,combined with the characteristics of simultaneous interpretation,this thesis classifies and analyzes the interpretation examples in the process of Regular Press Conference interpretation in order to explore the interpreting strategies of refutation.It can be found that the four widely-used interpreting strategies at the Regular Press Conference,namely literal translation,paraphrasing,omission and syntactic transformation,are closely related with Relevance Theory.The interpreter can flexibly choose the most appropriate interpreting strategy for the refutation in the Regular Press Conference in order to achieve the optimal relevance between the utterance and the context.
