A Survey Report On Foreign Affairs Translation Activities Of Guangxi In 2018

In the field of analysis on foreign affairs translation,most of analyses were implemented by targeting on Chinese translation market or a provincial translation market,while there are few survey reports on foreign affairs translation activities which regard specific foreign affairs offices as objects.Based on this perspective,this survey will give in-depth analysis on the foreign affairs translation activities of Guangxi carried on five foreign affairs offices which include the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Foreign Affairs Office,Nanning Foreign Affairs Office,Qinzhou Foreign Affairs Office,Baise Foreign Affairs Office and Guilin Foreign Affairs Office,trying to explicit their foreign affairs translation activities throughout the year of 2018.This survey is concentrated at five major statistics of foreign affairs translation activities,namely,the current situation of foreign affairs translation activity statistics carried by the five foreign affairs offices,the distribution of languages,the professional competence and quality requirements of interpreters and translators,the translation quality as well as the prospect of foreign affairs interpreters and translators.Through analysis of the five major statistics,requirements of foreign affairs translation in Guangxi for professional translators can be understood,and suggestion on training program for local translation professionals can be provided.Results of analysis indicate that:1.there are a large number of foreign affairs translation activities in Guangxi,while featuring regional disparity,Guangxi performs difference at the demand of translation talents:? There are many activities of translation and interpretation held by the Region Foreign Affairs Office and the Nanning Foreign Affairs Office,therefore,the two offices need a large number of translators and interpreters.? the Qinzhou Foreign Affairs Office need more interpreters cause its interpretation events are large quantity.?the Baise Foreign Affairs Office and the Guilin Foreign Affairs Office need more translators because they have to do a lot of works on translation.2.Language distribution in the five foreign affairs offices:? Ranking of targeting language countries:ASEAN countries>English-speaking countries>other countries;?Ranking of languages in activity:English>Language of ASEAN countries>Languages of other countries;?Ranking of possession languages:English>Vietnamese>Thai.Combining the three rankings,the languages owned by foreign affairs offices were not symmetrical with the languages needed in actual foreign affairs translation activities.There was a shortage of talents in minority languages in foreign affairs offices,and compound foreign affairs translation talents were even more needed.3.Language talents meeting the needs of foreign affairs are the combination of translation skills and comprehensive ability,while the professional norms of foreign affairs are also important.4.Foreign affairs translation requires high quality,which challenges the ability of interpreters and translators.5.Guangxi's foreign affairs translation market has larger demand for foreign affairs translation talents.The enlightenment to MTI was as follows:1.Add courses related to foreign affairs translation in the form of core courses+minor courses.2.Localization of course content.3.Implement of diversified practical training course by cooperation between university and society.
