Since the maturity of opera in Song and Yuan Dynasties,to the middle and late Ming Dynasty,opera has entered into the golden ages,and the printing and publishing of all kinds of operas have become popular for a while.Selected versions of late Ming Opera,which were included in the first and second editions of Rare Edition Drama Series,witnessed the prosperity of the opera market at that time.Most of these opera anthologies originated from local inscriptions in Anhui and Fujian.As popular works at that time,there were many vulgar characters in them.At the same time,opera works retain a large number of colloquial languages,which is one of the most reflective corpus of the time.As an important part of the study of vulgar characters,the study of vulgar characters in opera literature are still limited under the condition that the study of vulgar characters has been relatively mature nowadays.This paper takes the selected works of late Ming Opera collected in the first and second editions of Rare Edition Drama Series as research materials,collates and studies the vulgar characters appearing in them,explores the vulgar characters in the late Ming Dynasty,and summarizes the evolution law of the vulgar characters.The dissertation is divided into five parts:The introduction part includes the current situation and the research significance of vulgar characters,as well as the research contents and methods of this dissertation.The first chapter summarizes the definition of vulgar characters by scholars in the past and complement it with understanding of Rare Edition Drama Series,and then introduces the distribution and evolution of vulgar words in Rare Edition Drama Series.The second chapter analyses the reasons for the emergence of vulgar characters in the anthology of operas in the late Ming Dynasty,and elaborates it from two aspects: social and personal reasons.The third chapter analyses the types of vulgar characters in the anthology of late Ming opera,and divides them into thirteen categories according to glyph,pronunciation and meaning.The fourth chapter makes case study of representative vulgar characters,and especially textual research sixteen vulgar characters.Following the text,there is a list of vulgar characters of Rare Edition Drama Series,which collates and compiles the vulgar characters in the first and second editions of the Series,and makes textual research based on the fonts and literary meanings.
