Studies On C-E Translation Of Cultural Relics Texts In The Silk Road Museums

With the continuous advancement of the "Belt and Road Initiative",the strategy of"going out" of the Silk Road Culture has gradually become the top priority of cross-cultural communication.With the development of tourism,the museum's tourism function has become increasingly prominent,and it has gradually become a significant carrier for demonstrating China's unique historical culture and enhancing the attraction of urban cultural tourism.At the same time,as a high-quality cultural tourism resource,the museum is in line with the development of cultural tourism trend.The cultural relics text is a substantial window to promote national culture,which is not like literary texts or ordinary text publications,as it is scattered in different forms throughout the museum,including titles,prefaces,exhibits and conclusions.As museums take up the heavy responsibility of spreading Chinese culture,the standardized translation of cultural relics texts plays a crucial role in understanding Chinese culture for foreign tourists.At the same time,it affects the rating and the evaluation of the professionalism of the museum.The previous studies mainly focused on three aspects:first,the translation theory used in translating the cultural relics texts.Second,the study of the translation strategies,translation methods and translation techniques of the cultural relics texts in museums.Third,the interdisciplinary study of the translation of cultural relics texts from the perspective of culturology and sociology.In addition,the research objects selected by previous studies are often single or random.The analysis aspects are simple and there are few translation studies on the cultural relics texts in the Silk Road Museums.After collecting sufficient data,this thesis starts with Chinese to English translation of cultural relics texts in the Silk Road Museums,including the cultural relics texts in Shaanxi History Museum,Gansu Museum and Tang West Market Museum,carries on the related research under the Belt and Road Initiative and further explains the function and textual characteristics of the cultural relics texts in museums.Then the thesis sums up two major categories of basic translation failures:non-linguist translation failures and linguistic and cultural translation failures.Last,in view of the above problems,based on the English theory of relevance theory of translation,skopos theory and the theory of domestication and foreignization,the thesis wants to summarize the applicable Chinese-English translation model,which can be used in the Silk Road Museums.From the perspectives of translation theories and methods,translators,governments and citizens,the thesis systematically analyzes the causes of the translation failures and proposes corresponding solutions to the above problems.
