This is a report on the practice of translation of online suspense novel.The translation material is the contents of the first seven chapters of A Killer's Mind,about 14,000 words.A Killer's Mind,as one of the suspense novels,has typical features of literary works.The plots of the novel are compact and suspenseful.The author use peerless writing techniques,including the use of rhetoric and onomatopoeia,to perfectly describe the environmental atmospheres,the suspense novel should have,which arouses the readers' strong reading interest.According to the text typology translation theory of Reiss,the translation materials are mainly covered with two text styles,one is the expressive and the other is the informative.The translation practice is characterized by strong storytelling,high entertainment,broad knowledge needed,and close to the real life.Mike Omer's writing style follows the writing paradigm of typical western suspense novelist.The clues are hidden in the details.The lens transition is very frequent,and the ending of the story seems to be unexpected and reasonable.This translation practice report is guided by Hans Vermeer's skopos theory.The translator aims to introduce the popular online suspense novels in the United States to China,and to find the problems encountered in translation from the purpose of translation.This translation practice report contains the following five chapters.The first chapter is mainly a description of the background of translation practice.It introduces the background of translation tasks,the importance of translation,the characteristics of the text and the structure of this report.The second chapter is a detailed introduction to the translation practice process,from the preparation of the translation,the translation process,and the problems encountered in the translation process and post-translation proofreading work to introduce the task process.The third chapter briefly introduces the skopos theory,including the background of the skopos theory,the main points and the evaluation standard to the translation.Finally,this chapter also explains the adaptability of skopos theory in this translation practice.The fourth chapter is the main content of this practice report,namely case analysis.The author focuses on the introduction of western network suspense novels to China,and then selects appropriate translation skills to analyze the problems encountered in translation.The fifth chapter is a summary of the report,summarizing the experience,the shortcomings and the direction of continuing efforts.
