“Suzhou's Golden Age” is a long scroll of genre paintings that Xu Yang spent three years in the Qing Dynasty in the twenty-fourth year of Emperor Qianlong(1759).In this 12-meterlong work,the painter used delicate brushstrokes to depict the urban style and customs of the most prosperous Suzhou city in the Qianlong period more than 250 years ago.From this work,we can see the real development of politics,economy,culture and customs in the Jiangnan area during the Qianlong period.Although the “Suzhou's Golden Age” is a grand giant system,the attention of the academic circles on this painting has gradually increased in the past decade,and the monographs,papers and periodicals on the theme of “Suzhou's Golden Age” are mostly in history,architecture.It is rare to see articles in the economics and other disciplines that use art works as a starting point to study the scrolls.Therefore,the author will start from the perspective of visual narrative,and carry out an in-depth study of the image narrative of “Suzhou's Golden Age” with reference to the background of the times in the “Suzhou's Golden Age”.This paper takes the long scroll of paintings of “Suzhou's Golden Age” as the main research object,and discusses the following three parts: The first part is the introduction,which clarifies the research status,research purposes and significance,research ideas and methods,and research difficulties.The second part is the main body of the article,which contains four chapters.The first chapter introduces the life and painting style of the painter Xu Yang,and focuses on combing the works of Xu Yang's main courtyard paintings and his experience in the court painting court.The second chapter further explores the social,cultural,emotional background and the content of the screen produced by the “Suzhou's Golden Age”.The third chapter focuses on the visual narrative art of “Suzhou's Golden Age”,which is mainly analyzed from the perspectives of subject matter,long-volume carrier and performance method,and is the key chapter of the full text.The fourth chapter expounds the unique performance characteristics of the “Suzhou's Golden Age” in the narrative language by comparing the images of the “Suzhou's Golden Age” and other narrative paintings in the horizontal and vertical directions.The third part is the conclusion.The author thinks that the birth of the “Suzhou's Golden Age” is influenced by specific social concepts and aesthetic characteristics,and uses the long scroll system as the carrier to use the omniscience perspective and S-shaped composition to express ups and downs of narrative content.Focusing on visual images,the article uses the literature research method and image analysis method to study the visual narrative of the painting art of the “Suzhou's Golden Age”,and realizes a new perspective on this work.
