This thesis belongs to a translation report selected from the Fourth age.Byron Rees,the author of this book,has been focusing on the research of AI for years and devoting himself on promoting the development of AI.This book begins with a narration of the technological development of human beings in different historical periods.And then,the book mainly introduces the development process of artificial intelligence and the problems and forecasting encountered in the development process of AI.The translator chooses the second part of this book as the translation material of this thesis.This part mainly introduces Narrow AI,robots and the technical challenges faced by AI in the future and the impacts of AI development on employment situation.At present,the author did not find any translation version in China.This material belongs to popular science texts.Generally,popular science texts have the following characteristics:scientific,knowledge-based,interesting and literariness.These characteristics of popular science texts are the important points that translators should focus on.Firstly,when translating,the translator make sure the consistency and accuracy of term translation.Secondly,it is necessary to grasp the language style of the text.When translating,both the information of source language and the reading effect of the target language readers should be taken into account.Thirdly,the rhetoric and colloquial expressions in the original text are all difficult aspects to be solved by the translator.According to the characteristics of this translation material and the problems,the translator chooses communicative translation and semantic translation theory as the theoretical guidance of this thesis.Communicative translation emphasizes the reading effect of readers and the thinking process.Semantic translation pays attention to the syntax of the original text,while the translation emphasizes the expression of the original thoughts of the author.Through the translation process,the translator has a deeper understanding of communicative translation and semantic translation,which guides the translation practice.
