On The Application Of Compression Strategy In C-E Simultaneous Interpretation With Text Based On Effort Model

Simultaneous interpretation is a multi-tasking process,requiring the interpreter to interpret timely and accurately in almost synchronization with the source language speaker.In this process,the interpreter should maintain a great deal of concentration.Besides,he has to listen,memorize,speak and see at the same time.The difficulty is self?evident.Based on Daniel Gill's Effort Model of simultaneous interpretation,this paper finds that proper application of compression strategy can help interpreters allocate their capacity in the process of simultaneous interpretation,thus reducing their cognitive loads and improving the quality of interpretation.This paper is a practice report on simulated C-E simultaneous interpretation with text based on Jack Ma's keynote speech at the opening ceremony of“Computing Conference 2018,.According to the practice,the author finds that in the process of simultaneous interpretation,the interpreter needs to process high-density source language in a veiy short time,which affects the capacity of the interpreter.If the interpreter interprets the source language word by word,it will result in the interpreter lagging far behind the speaker,which will affect the quality of interpretation.Therefore,the author holds that the proper application of compression strategy in syllable,vocabulary,syntax,semantics and situation of the source language can not only alleviate the capacity and psychological pressure of interpreters,but also make the interpretation concise and fluent.In conclusion,based on Daniel Gill's Effort Model,this paper analyses and proves the application of compression strategy in C-E simultaneous interpretation with text,and draws a conclusion that compression strategy is an important strategy to be adopted in C-E simultaneous interpretation with text,with a view to serving as reference and guidance for interpreters.
