In recent years, with the continuous expansion and deepending of opening up,a large number of English literary works have translated into China.Novel is one of the most important literary genres and noval translation has great significance.Based on the translation of Tam Lin,this report used the theory method and case analysis method to summarize this translation practice.Tam Lin,a famous Scottish ballad, tells a love story that Janet falls in love with Tam Lin who is captured by Queen of the Fairies when he was young.Janet enters into the forest and takes Tam Lin back.Pamela Dean,an American writer, took the main line of the Scottish folk tale,in the context of 1970s in the United States, combined the life experience of herself and created Tam Lin.Till now,Tam Lin has not got a Chinese version.Chapter Four was translated into Chinese from Engish. On the basis of cultural intertextuality theory, this translation practice used Tam Lin as the original text and analyed the intertextuality between two languages:English and Chinese to help translator to understand British and American culture. This report could be divided into five parts, including introduction, translation process, theory and translation difficulties, case studies of translation, and epilogue. In the process of translation practice, the translator conducts intertextuality to anyalize how to translate the oringial text into a tartgeted one, comprehensively using translation method like addition and omission, sequential translation and reversal translation, ion and concreteness to address translation problems and obstacles. This report has a theorical and pratctical significance for readers not only to understand American social life in the 1970s,English literature, cultural differences between China and the West, but also to learn novel translation.
