In order to follow the demand of society's development,deepen education reformation and promote the quality education,a new round of basic education curriculum reform is in implementing.Small-class education is a trend of modern educational reform,is also a form of teaching organization in the field of basic education in recent years.Small-class education is not only the inevitable product of the social development of the individual demand for talent,but also the inevitable result of the liberation of mankind itself,it is an important reform measures to implement quality education.Modern education attaches great importance to the development of people,to provide the material and economic basis for the all-round development of students,so that students can get a better education.The implementation of small-class education is intended to promote the development of students,however,for most rural middle schools,it is still in an attempt to explore and adapt to the stage,it has a positive impact on rural middle school education remains to be verified.In many places of China,the small class teaching is simply reducing the number of students.Teachers' understanding of the small class is not enough and they haven't enough useful experience and reference.Many teachers still use the traditional teach methods in large classes.So the form of small classes can't match the effective teaching methods,it is hard to take the advantage of small class teaching.So whether it is effective or not?Does it really have unparalleled advantages as it is expected?With these questions the writer took English teaching in small classes in Tu Ditang Middle school as an example to investigate the current situation and the effectiveness of English teaching in small classes.And how to optimize small-class teaching model?In order to answer these questions,questionnaires for the students,interview for the teachers,in-class observation and examination were employed.The major findings were summarized as follows:The current situation of small class teaching in Tu Ditang Middle school is not so satisfied.The effect of it is not obvious.Teachers in small classes don't take full use of small class teaching model.In class,students haven't played the dominant role completely.Though some teachers try to use the small class teaching model in class in some degree,because of the entrance pressure,teaching experience and traditional education concepts,the small class teaching model doesn't go well.For this situation,this article focuses on the problems of teachers and classroom teaching activities.and put forward the optimized countermeasures of small-class teaching.
