A Translation Report On The E-C Translation Of Safety Pillar Training Program

This thesis is a translation report of the English to Chinese translation project of Safety Pillar done by the author.The entire translation process of the project is analyzed,including the pre-translation preparation,understanding and expressing,and the post-translation feedback and revision.Combining with Newmark's text typology,this thesis analyzes the source text,the target text and objectives of the translation program.The translation methods and techniques of training materials with a certain professional nature are initially discussed.Efforts are also made to maximize the quality of translation and optimize the communication effects of training materials.The original text is a practical training text designed to achieve the best training results in the company,that is,the best communication effects.According to Newmark,the source text can mainly be classified into informative and vocative text.Different text types involve different language functions,and the primary considerations of the translation and appropriate translation methods also varies.In an actual translation program,the translator should flexibly select the proper translation methods according to the actual situation of the source text and the expression habits of the target language.The thesis is divided into five parts:the first part introduces the background,purpose and research significance of the translation project;the second part reviews the whole translation process;the third part introduces the basic contents and core concepts of text typology;the fourth part is a case study of the target on the basis of text typology,and also discusses the translation methods that can be applied to translate such texts;the fifth part draws the following conclusions:1.The ultimate purpose of the translation of the training text is to achieve better information communicative effect.Newmark's text typology is applicable to the translation of such texts;2.For such professional training texts,a combination strategy of semantic translation and communicative translation should be adopted;3.Translation methods such as word-for-word translation,zero-translation,idiomatic translation,addition and omission,conversion and inversion can be adopted.In the actual translation program,the translator should take both the actual situation of the original text and the expression habits of the target language into consideration,and select the appropriate translation methods flexibly.He(She)should respect the original text and give priority to the purpose of communication,and strive to achieve the best communicative and information transmission effect.
