A Project Report On The Interpreting For The Market Expansion In China By An Australian Wine Group

The interpreter participated in the Victoria Jiangsu Business Placement Program held by Jiangsu Federation of Industry&Commerce and Victorian Chamber of Commerce from May 19 to 25 in 2018,where she provided a range of interpreting services for the CEO of Joval Wine Group,including consecutive interpreting in the training courses,business interpreting in the meetings with entrepreneurs and liaison interpreting during the whole program.In the process of interpreting,the interpreter encountered two types of difficulties.From the perspective of source language,the interpreter was faced with listening barriers caused by Australian accent,understanding obstacles due to lack of wine knowledge and concentration difficulties coming from interference of external factors.From the perspective of target language,the interpreter was confronted with output deficiency arising from no note-taking,output difficulties resulting from figure interpreting and output challenges deriving from culture-loaded words.Having these difficulties in mind,the interpreter carefully studied some relevant books and materials,thus proposing the following solutions.First,the interpreter should make adequate pre-interpreting preparations by means of getting familiar with the features of Australian accent,learning the domain knowledge of wine and practicing attentive listening skills in an unfavorable environment.Second,the interpreter should improve output performance by means of enhancing short-term memory abilities,strengthening figure interpreting skills and applying flexible interpreting strategies.Based on the real experience of interpreting practice,this report,through specific case analysis,explores the methods for the interpreter to overcome difficulties and improve the quality and efficiency of information output in the process of interpreting.It has a positive reference value for future interpreters,especially those working in the field of wine marketing,and it will also enrich the materials in the field of wine interpreting.
