Liaison Interpreting Practice Report On The 20th Furniture Manufacturing & Supply China 2014

With the development of global economy and deepening of China’s opening up to the outside world, China is getting closer to the world. Cultural exchanges and economic cooperation between China and the world are becoming more frequent. Interpreting is a method of both cross-language and cross-cultural communication. There are different kinds of interpreting, such as court interpreting, conference interpreting, community interpreting, liaison interpreting. Liaison interpreting is an activity which involves a wide range of subjects, and unexpected events occur very often. It requires the interpreter equipped with very strong flexibility, and at the same time the interpreter should make sufficient preparations before the interpreting.This report is based on the author’s personal experience as a liaison interpreter in the FMC China 2014 from September 10 th to 15 th in 2014. After the interpreting practice, the author summarizes the experiences and lessons from the process of liaison interpreting. During the process, the author came across many problems and their solutions are also put forward in the report. There are four parts in all: the first chapter describes the interpreting task, which consists of the background, requirements and features; the second chapter is the process of liaison interpreting itself, which includes the preparations made before the task, the interpreting process and the review after interpreting; the third chapter is the case where the author analyses the problems and offers interpreting strategies; the fourth chapter summarizes the lessons from the interpreting practice, and prospects of the author’s professional career.
