The consciousness of successive unity is that of time.In order to answer the question of the topic,we must solve the key contradiction, that is,how could consciousness at present show not only something of the present but also something that has been past? Or more precisely, how could such transcendent “pastness” be given, and united with the “presentness”? In the Phenomenology of Consciousness of Internal Time, focusing on this question,Husserl transformed from the critique of others to the critique of himself. The necessary and sufficient power that made such change possible is the breakthrough of his understanding on the conscious act, especially memory,in that, the discovery of the two-fold structure. The presentation of the “pastness” could be explained only by this structure. This,on the one hand, allows Husserl to refute the arguments of the time consciousness, which are based on the idea of momentary conscious acts.On the other, his argument could avoid the notoriously infinite regress problem on the idea of the conscious acts that have extension in time, which was first proposed by the L.Stern.Based on this,Husserl exposed the structure of absolute subject,by which he could answer the question of how consciousness itself could be aware of time in the state of Heraclitan's flow.
