A Probe Into Baudrillard's Theory Of Symbolic Fetishism

In the tide of economic globalization and the expansion process of capitalist mode of production,all countries ' economies have achieved different degrees of development,consumption problems have been accompanied by the process of economic development,and consumption has become one of the important issues of general concern in the world at present.Consumerism,an important representative of the theoretical study of the Western "consumer Society" in the second half of the 20 th century Jean Baudrillard in the analysis of Western Consumer society,based on consumption alienation,put forward the term "symbolic fetishism".The theory of fetishism can be traced back to Marx's theory of alienated labor.Marx cut his theory of alienation into the analysis of capitalist commodity world and capitalist mode of production,found the role of goods,money and capital in it,and put forward the theory of commodity fetishism and currency fetishism as well as capital fetishism.When capitalist society entered the "Consumer society" discussed in Baudrillard,Baudrillard found that people in the consumer society still punished a kind of alienation.The alienation of consumer society refers to the existence of human nature and the absence of subjectivity.Consumption realizes the manipulation of human beings through the meaning of symbols.In the symbol fetishism,the symbol control is mainly manifested in three aspects: first,the symbol formation means that the relationship and the difference of the way of the object cause the illusion of social stratum flow;Secondly,human labor becomes a kind of symbolic labor,the human demand becomes the pursuit of symbolic and symbolic meaning,the real needs of human beings are obscured by the demand of symbols;The manipulation of human beings by symbols has become the control of symbolic ideology.It can be seen that symbols have replaced the essential existence of human beings,and symbols have been given a more abstract meaning: identity,rank,privilege identification,and so on,these people are tired and enslaved for this,the meaning of this symbol is different from the existence of human authenticity,which directly leads to the emergence of symbolic fetishism.Baudrillard's theory of symbolic fetishism and his own criticism of his theory undoubtedly continue the study of Marx's fetishism theory and alienation theory,which is of great significance to the study of Marx's historical materialism,and of course there are some problems in the study of critical theory.At the same time,the theory of symbolic fetishism also provides a reference for analyzing the phenomenon of "symbolic worship" in contemporary China and exploring the construction of China's consumer culture system in the new era.
