A Report On The Translation Of Economic Complexity And Human Development(Excerpts)

This is an E-C translation report of Dominik Hartmann's book Economics and Human Development(excerpts)under the guidance of Nord's “Function plus Loyalty” translation theory.This translation report selects the introduction and the seventh chapter of this book as the source text.It is a professional academic monograph and involves a lot of terms,long sentences and passive sentences.Nord's "Function plus Loyalty" Theory declares that the translator should be loyal to the author and reader when realizing the function of the target text,which is a targeted guide for this translation practice.Therefore,this paper focuses on the reliability of translation to ensure the loyalty of the target text to the source text.Through the combination of theory and case study,the translation strategies of economic text and the language differences between English and Chinese are summarized.The translation report is made up of five parts.The first part is the description of the translation project,explaining the research purposes,the selection of material,and the brief introduction of text.The second part is translation process——pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation proofreading.The third part is the theoretical basis,that is,the formulation and development of “Function plus Loyalty” Theory.The fourth part is case study,which is the key chapter of this translation report.Under the guidance of Nord's "Function plus Loyalty" Theory,it mainly aims at achieving the accuracy and faithfulness of professional terms and non-professional terms in the process of translation.Among them,it adopts the methods of part-of-speech conversion and word addition.And various translation techniques are used in the process of translating passive sentences and long difficult sentences,such as embedding method,splitting and reorganizing method.It also explores some cohesive devices such as ellipsis and transformation used in text cohesion.It aims at ensuring the loyalty of the target language to the source language by employing various translation strategies and achieving the textual function of the source language.The fifth part is conclusion,summarizing the translator's gains and shortcomings and prospects of future translation.
