Art And Salvation

After the Lugouqiao Incident on July 7,1937,the War of Resistance Against Japan broke out in an all-round way,the situation was turbulent.In Sichuan Province,which is located in the hinterland of Southwest China,quite a few of people's consciousness of resistance has not been awakened by the war.At that time,Chengdu,as the rear area,urgently needed to use culture as a weapon to mobilize the people into the war.Artists and cultural elites spontaneously form an association and they use cartoon as weapons in chengdu set off a vigorous art activities,in order to awaken the rear people,motivate the front soldiers,and attack traitors.As the first spontaneous folk anti-Japanese art group in Chengdu,Sichuan Cartoon Association emerged at the historic moment and played a great social role in the culture of war of resistance.However,from the existing published works,the previous study of Sichuan Cartoon Association still stayed on the introduction of the basic situation of the society.The historical motivation of the establishment of association,the analysis of the members' groups and the study of the activities of the association are full of sweeping generalizes,and the contents are all much of a muchness.This article will discuss from the following four parts.The first part is the introduction,mainly introducing the research status,research methods,research emphasis and difficulties of this topic,in order to put forward the research value and academic innovation of this topic.The second part is about the background and experience of the establishment of Sichuan Cartoon Association and its members.Taking the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan as the background of the times,this paper clarifies the reasons and experiences of the establishment of Sichuan Cartoon Association by investigating and researching the relevant documents and historical materials of Sichuan Cartoon Association,and combines the members' memoirs and relevant archives of Sichuan Cartoon Association to analyze the cultural background,origindistribution and education level of the members.The third part is the activities of Sichuan Cartoon Association.After the establishment of the cartoon association,members carried out anti-Japanese propaganda through newspapers,various forms of exhibitions and activities.The author will collate and analyze the materials of the newspapers,such as Xinxin News,Xinmin Daily,Huaxi Daily,which are edited by the members and published works,so as to summarize the themes and artistic propositions of the works.Cartoon association hold salvation cartoon exhibitions,charity sales exhibitions and other forms of publicity activities.In this regard,the author will conduct a comprehensive study based on the historical materials consulted.The fourth part is the dissolution of Sichuan Cartoon Association and the members' activities after the dissolution.In 1939,the Kuomintang tightened its control over newspapers and associations,and the Sichuan Cartoon Association was abolished.However,the activities of its members did not stop,they continued to make important contributions to the development of the art of the Sichuan Anti-Japanese War.This chapter combs the activities of members after the dissolution of association,and try to objectively evaluate their influence on the development of art in Chengdu during the War of Resistance Against Japan.On the basis of a large number of historical details,this paper tries to provide a more comprehensive and three-dimensional research path for Sichuan Cartoon Association during the War of Resistance Against Japan by taking the establishment of Sichuan Cartoon Society,the activities of art salvation and the dissolution of the association as the main line of study.
