The yearning and exploration of the universe by ancient and modern people has never stopped. This yearning is also reflected in the specific painting art works.People use patterns to express their cognition of the universe and the unknown world outside. On the basis of continuous cognitive accumulation, the predecessors developed a cosmological view with profound philosophical significance through knowledge integration and systematic division. This view of the universe includes the concept of an infinite universe, the structural model of the heavens and the earth, the evolution of the universe, and the relationship between heaven and human. The theme of time and space is an extremely important part of painting. The expression of time and space has become more complicated and diversified in the modern paintings of China and the West in the 20 th century.Great changes have taken place in the form and subject matter of the pictures. From single-point perspective and scatter-point perspective, the picture is transformed into a space from multiple different viewpoints. The original concept of creating a three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional plane is broken, and instead it is a space that expresses four dimensions or more.Artists no longer simply focus on the expression of three-dimensional realism and static space-time,the transformation of specific image components such as color and lines to independent aesthetic factors, painting styles are more diverse, flat, and graphical works are not uncommon. At this stage, the world art is going to be innovative, and the experimental direction is going. In the face of the new era motifs and trends,it is necessary to explore new means of expression in painting. In our daily life and artistic creation,we can't do without the use of graphics.A graphic means that a space shape can be divided by a contour in a two-dimensional space, which is a part of the space and has no spatial ductility, and is a limited identifiable shape. The use of graphics permeates every aspect of our lives and its meaning is broad.By analyzing the symbolic meaning of the graphics in Chinese and foreign painting works, this paper sorts out the expression and symbolic meaning of the graphics, trying to explore the representational relationship between the graphical representation and the meaning system in the depth.Through research and analysis of the symbolic meanings of graphics in ancient and modern Chinese and foreign works of art, such as the mandala art of Tibetan Buddhism in China and the symbolic figures in ancient Egyptian art works,it enters the energy world linked behind the figure, providing theoretical support and reference for individual creation.significance.This article is divided into six chapters:The first chapter briefly expounds the importance of the theme of time and space in art works,as well as the status quo and development trend of time and space in the context of the current era.It also expresses the purpose and significance of the theoretical research and creative practice of this topic in contemporary art..The second chapter explains the concept of graphics and artistic symbols, and analyzes the connections and meanings of graphics and artistic symbols. The third chapter summarizes the research results, combs and summarizes several methods of graphical processing of time and space, and proves through the elaboration and analysis of related specific works of art.The fourth chapter mainly introduces the concrete case manifestation of time and space graphic, and analyzes the symbolic meaning of the graphics in the classic works of art in ancient and modern China and abroad to further illustrate the necessity of graphic expression in time and space. The fifth chapter mainly analyzes the time and space graphical expression in personal creation by expounding the ways and methods of personal creation and the effect of pictures. The sixth chapter is a brief overview and summary of the full text.
