Language is not only a way to express conceptual ideas, but also a carrier of sentiments and attitudes.Linguists including G.Leech,Nida and Lin Xingguang separately argued from different perspectives that affective meaning is an important attribute of language, which, however,is commonly ignored.Affective meaning refers to the emotions of the speaker or the writer, including his/her attitudes towards the listener, reader or the subject of conversation. When translating, translators should keep affective meaning in mind, and express the equivalent sentiments with the original text.Emotion is firstly contained in the commendatory or derogatory degrees of words,in which Chinese and English languages are not consistent.Translators should judge by both textual and cultural contexts.Euphemism, commonly used in political articles,is another language tool to express emotions,to soften the tone and weaken the revealing of feelings.Translators should get the real intention of the author through the vague expression, and use flexible translation methods to show the attitudes and stance of the author with the precondition of accuracy in meaning.
