With the emergence of prominent science fiction works,Chinese science fiction has received more and more attention both at home and abroad. In order to enhance the acceptance of Chinese science fiction in foreign academic circles, translation becomes an effective way. However,at present, the outstanding English versions of Chinese science fiction works are still limited. Therefore,to further improve the translation quality,it is of great necessity to adopt appropriate translation strategies based on the different characteristics of science fiction works. With a unique imagination on an unspecified future city,Hao Jingfang's Folding Beijing(??????)was awarded the“Hugo Award”in 2016,drawing great public attention in recent years.Up to now,Folding Beijing has already been translated by Ken Liu(???).Due to gender differences, his English version mainly concerns the realistic social problems, but to some degree neglects the in-depth female emotions reflected in the original text. Thus, based on the C-E translation of the first three sections of Folding Beijing, this report manages to explore translation strategies from the feminist perspective.Feminist translation theory is the combination of gender issues with translation studies. It focuses on what effect gender differences create on translated works and serves to make women visible in translation. This report mainly discusses the translation strategies of Folding Beijing from the perspective of feminist translation theory. As gender differences have great influence on translation,a preface is provided in order to make target readers have a clear understanding of the translator's intentions and improve her female status.Besides, the strategy of “supplementing” is employed to make compensation for the expression of female emotions and images. The source text is abundant in detailed descriptions of social life, hence several footnotes are added to portray the housewife images in daily life.Furthermore, the strategy of “hijacking” is applied to help reshape the position of females and eliminate the discrimination against women in the original text.Based on a certain amount of case analysis, this report is supposed to give valuable reference and guidance for discussing gender issues in future translation studies. This report, meanwhile,is expected to bring more or less fresh vitality to the development and spread of Chinese science fiction. This report is divided into three parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to the whole report, including the research topic and background, significance of the research and the structure of this report. The next part consists of three chapters:Chapter One presents a description of the translation task with the background information of Folding Beijing and its author,an analysis of the source text as well as the translation process;Chapter Two offers the literature review;Chapter Three explores the translation strategies applied in Folding Beijing by a certain amount of case analysis. The last part is the conclusion.A systematic summary is made from the major points and their significance, the findings, the limitations and suggestions for further study.
