In this translation report, the author translated the excerpted parts of A Practical Guide to Localization written by Bert Esselink,Strategic Account Director at SDL.The source text is a technical text, which is characterized by frequent and repeated use of terminologies,so it is suitable to be translated by the machine translation engine. The excerpted parts introduce basic principles and relevant knowledge of localization and internationalization,it is well worth reading for anyone intending to work in the localization industry. However, for this project, machine translation output still cannot reach the level of manual translation by professional human translators, therefore the author has to post-edit on the basis of machine translation.Different from the "narrow translated post-editing" that directly post-editing on the output of machine translation in the past,post-editing in Integrated Translation Environment with computer-aided translation(CAT)which is based on translation memory technology, machine translation(MT)and translation management system represents a new trend in the technology application of language service enterprises. The author translated the source text first with Google Translate based on SDL Trados Studio 2017 with Tmxmall MT plugin, then post-edited it and calculated the workload of post-editing with Post-edit Compare by SDL Trados Studio 2017 in this project.Based on four categories of MT errors namely lexical, syntactic, discourse, and other errors, the author discussed approaches of post-editing with cases and verified the significance of post-editing by calculating post-editing workload through this practice. The author hopes to deepen her understanding of localization and internationalization and improve her post-editing abilities and translation efficiency after this project.
