A Report On The Consecutive Interpreting Of International Workshop On Edible Mushrooms' Production In Southeast And South Asian Countries

This report describes a Chinese into English consecutive interpreting task on“Forest Edible Mushrooms' Cultivation” which was conducted by the author for the2016 International Workshop on Edible Mushrooms' Production in Southeast and South Asian Countries in Yunnan Agricultural University.Drawing on “Economic Principle”,she analyses and discusses some typical interpreting examples selected from her own interpreting practice and then proposes some improvement suggestions.In “Task Description” section,the report gives priority to the pre-interpreting preparation.It divides the task preparation into four phases and each has a different focus and function.Moreover,it also explains the “multi-translation modes” of the interpreting practice.Her self-reflection is also discussed.In “Case Analysis” section,drawing on “Economic Principle”,several typical examples are selected for further analysis and discussion.They include the omission of the lecturer's repetitive remarks,the interpretation of the Chinese characters without SL,the interpretation of the terminologies and tables,the interpretation of impromptu questions,excerpt interpreting for the Chinese video and some self-corrections.The interpreter finds out that in the process of the interpreting practice,she needs to save time for the audience and mind energy for herself.As for different interpreting difficulties,the interpreter can choose such interpreting strategies as omission,explanation or excerption to deal with them.Moreover,“Economic Principle” is an effective guidance for the interpreter to review her own interpreting practice and improve her interpreting quality.
