With the acceleration of globalization, the cross-border investment cooperation is greatly intensified and expanded between Chinese and overseas companies.International investment conferences provide a good platform for companies of both sides to make negotiations and discuss about future cooperation. With “GoforIsrael”as its theme, the 19 th China-Israel Investment Conference invited more than 100 Israeli hi-tech companies and many Chinese companies to discuss about future cooperation and development. As an important bridge for the companies to communicate with each other, the interpreter played a crucial role in promoting the success of their negotiations in the matchmaking conferences. This report analyzes the author's interpreting practice in the 19 th GoforIsrael China-Israel Investment Conference based on the Skopos theory. The Skopos theory points out that translation is an activity of intercultural communication with specific purposes and three rules should be followed including the skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule. The skopos rule, which dominates the translation techniques,is the first principle that translators should obey in translation. In matchmaking negotiations, both interpreters and speakers have specific purposes. And the Skopos theory offers a good guidance for interpreters to adjust their interpreting techniques so as to realize both the participants' purposes. In this report, the author firstly presents the interpreter's whole interpreting process in the 19 th GoforIsrael China-Israel Investment Conference and offers some background information about the interpreting practice. Then the author gives an introduction to the Skopos theory and listed some examples about the challenges she encountered in interpreting such as redundancy, unclear message, illogical language and unknown terminology.Based on this, the author analyzes how the interpreter, under the guidance of the Skopos theory, adopted various techniques including omission, addition, logic integration andadoption of the original words to deal with the challenges. It is hoped that through the analysis of the interpreting practice in this report, the green-hand interpreters can learn how to adjust their techniques according to different purposes so as to cope with various challenges and provide a better service for their clients in interpreting practice.
