There are two originations of Chinese detective novels: One is“Detective Story” from western countries and the other is “case story” of ancient China.Before Western detective fictions translated into Chinese,the Chinese case-solving novels had reached the end of a link.It merges with chivalrous fiction,then a new pattern of novel called “Dynasty chivalrous case novels” is formed.The dynasty chivalrous case novels flourishes in the late Qing dynasty,by its theme of “loyalty”,the “Arrow crib” heroic protagonists,winding plots,plain language,and ideological cultural which conformity with the psychological characteristics of townsfolks.Although the Dynasty chivalrous case novels had disappeared during the period of Republic of China,its influence will continue.Its chivalrous part has become the swordsman novels,and the detective part become independent from it,too,which has become the Chinese originally-created detective fictions.However,there are few scholars have analyzed the relationship between chivalrous case fictions and Chinese modern detective fictions.Hence,objective to specifically explore the influence of chivalrous case fictions on Chinese modern detective fictions in the aspects of characterization,narrative methods,and ideological culture,several methodologies are adopted in this paper,including comparative method,text analysis,historical analysisand other research methods.In the introduction of this paper systematically review the emergence and evolution of chivalrous case novels and Chinese modern detective novels,clarify the relationship between them in the history of literature,according to the current research situation of Chinese modern detective fiction in academic circles,the significance of this study is presented.There are three chapters in the main part of this paper:Chapter one: Start with the image and ideological of characters,expounds the influence of knight-errant spirit and upright official image in chivalrous case fiction on the detective image in Chinese detective fiction.In addition,the image of the perpetrator and the victim in these two kinds of novels are compared.Chapter two: Draw lessons from the narrative theories of western structuralism,specifically elaborate the influence of chivalrous case fiction on Chinese modern detective fiction in three aspects: narrative perspective,narrative technique and narrative language.Chapter three: Analyses the conflicts between Chinese and Western cultural concepts such as law and morality,superstition and science,family ethics and material desire,and the choice of these cultural concepts in Chinese modern detective stories.
