A Comprehensive Study On Tombs With Single Patio In Chang'an Area Of Tang Dynasty

The patio refers to a part of the ancient tomb structure,was opened in the top of the horizontal tunnel between the long tomb passage and the coffin chamber,and is popular in the northern region.The Tang Dynasty was the peak period for the development and application of patio tombs.Usually,the identity and status of the tomb owners are related to the number of patios.Chang'an is the political,economic,and cultural center of the Tang Dynasty.It is of great significance to select the tombs with single patio in this area.On the basis of analyzing the shape of tombs and the types of typical funerary objects,the tombs with single patio in Chang'an area of Tang Dynasty were divided into four stages through comprehensive research,and the evolution of the tombs and the combination of funerary objects in the tombs with single patio were discussed.The tombs with single patio in the Chang'an area of the Tang Dynasty inherit the style of the Northern Wei Dynasty and the the Sui Dynasty.Few of them were found in the early Tang period,and were popular in the flourish Tang period.In the middle and later Tang periods the cave-chamber tombs with single patio gradually disappeared,but the brick-chamber tombs with single patio found more.According to the epitaphs and the combination of funerary objects and the literature,the people who use the tombs with single patio in Chang'an area are divided into two categories.One is the family members without official position of the low-level bureaucratic family,and the other is civilians with certain economic strength.At the same time,the tombs with single pane in other areas were compared with the similar tombs in the Chang'an area of the Tang Dynasty.It was found that the single patio tombs in other surrounding areas were also popular in the flourish Tang period,and the identity of the tomb owners was more diverse.
