The engraved basin is a special type of pottery found in prehistoric archaeology. It has a regular groove on the inner wall and is different from the general pottery basin container. The academic circles have much to say about such artifacts, but as the data continues to accumulate,re-examining such artifacts can complement the existing cognitive deficiencies. The article takes the prehistoric engraved pot as the research object, classifies its external morphological characteristics as the classification standard, and constructs its spatiotemporal development framework with reference to the ages of typical specimens.Try to study the shape characteristics, source flow, propagation mode, use and function of the grooved basin. In the morphological study, the materials were collected comprehensively, and the obvious external morphological features of the grooving basin were used to classify them. The spatial and temporal frameworks were constructed with reference to the ages of typical specimens. On this basis, the evolution trajectory and evolution mode of the grooved basin are discussed. It is found that the longitudinal evolution of the grooved basin is not obvious, but the multi-dimensional coexistence relationship of various grooved pots is very obvious. In order to understand the above phenomenon in a deeper way,the modeling characteristics, source flow and propagation mode of the grooved basin are comprehensively explained.Since the origin of the grooved basin originated in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the spread of the grooved technology combined with the age or regional style of the pottery makes the various types of grooved pots coexist. In functional studies,a variety of evidence is used to recognize the function of the potted pot in prehistoric times. It is believed that its basic function lies in the processing of rhizomes or tubers and other plant resources. The processing method is mainly grinding, and some engraved pots should have matching tools. It is also pointed out that the prevalence of inscribed pots is related to the intensified use of plant resources such as rhizomes by ancestors and the preference for food processing methods of powdered food or food.
