Shuangji River basin is located in the hinterland of the Central Plains, including most of the area of Xinmi, Xinzheng, and the northen part of Changge and Yanling, it’s belonging to the northern end of the Huaihe River, as an important zone connecring two prehistoric cultural areas: the upper reaches of the Huaihe River and the middle reaches of the Yellow River, in recent years gradually scholars are concerned it. This article using the stratigraphy and typology, settlement archaeology, cultural factor analysis method, and combined with the research results of environmental archaeology, archaeology, animal plant archeology, based on academic research, have a comprehensive study of the problems in the area of prehistoric archaeological cultures, settlement form and social economic status.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the natural geographical environent of Shuangji River basin, summarizes the prehistoric archaeological excavations and research status, the scope of this paper describes,the method and meaning.The second chapter by selecting the basin and sdjacent areas typical sites,stagong these sites on the basis of previous studies, after the valley of prehistoric archaeology culture properties, characteristics, types and time are discussed, through the analysis of typical sites and artifacts typical combination, the Shuangji River basin prehistoric remains divided into four stages of Peiligang culture, Yangshao culture, Dahecun Fifth Phase culture, Wangwan Third Phase culture.The third chapter analyzed the settlement patterns of prehistoric Shuangji River basin in different period, based on the macro and micro two aspects systematically, first analysis the ruins of typical sites, study settlement pattern and layout of a single site. Secondly, to consider the different sites’ geographical location, altitude, area and other factors in different periods, explore the scale of different settlements on the same period,and these relationship, then draw the spatial and temporal characteristics and regulation of the settlement distribution.The fourth chapter discusses the prehistoric social economic conditions of this valley, coveing the agriculture, fishing and hunting, gathering industry, animal husbandry and handicrafts etc, it has experienced changes in different prehistoric period, either subsistence or handicraft economy has experienced the process from simple to complex, from original to mature.The fifth chapter is the conclusion, summarizes the main viewpoints of the thesis, analyzes the stage of prehistoric culture development in Shuangji River basin.The change of prehistoric archaeological culture and social economic status, are a direct reflection of the prehistoric society in the area. It is located in the hinterland of the Central Plains Civilization area, is a microcosm of the civilizing course of the Central Plains, through the understanding of the stage of development of regional culture, has great significance to the study of the Central Plains area development of complex society and the origin of Chinese civilization.
