Net games have been expanding at a staggering speed for decades.With the development of the globalization,in order to preempt the overseas market,game makers have launched many language versions,and as the world's most populous country China is with incalculable market potential and many game makers plan to open the market in China.In order to enable the domestic players to experience the essence of the foreign game,game translation,indispensable and often neglected,begin to enter the public.Due to a late start and deficient industrial chain,domestic game translation is still at initial stage,and the good translation and bad one intermingle.However gameplay to a large extent depends on the text and voice,if its translation cannot well revive the wonderful point of the original games,target language player's gaming experience is bound to be impaired greatly,and therefore it would definitely affect the development of the domestic game industry.In view of this,the author attempts to adopt German Functional Translation Theory as the theoretical basis to analyze mainland version and Taiwan version of the popular online game league of legend.In the translation of character names,titles,skills and background stories,etc,the author generalizes the different translation methods and strategies and puts forward some advice for some inappropriate parts of translation.At last,game translation is a kind of cross-culture activity with commercial purpose.With the guide of Functional Translation Theory,game translation can not only achieve it commercial purpose but also bring the same game experience for both source language players and target language players.This dissertation can enrich current game translation studies in China to some extent and provide some reference for the localization of foreign games in the future.
