Boredom is a sort of common emotional experience that has deemed to b e inessential.However,Being bored is common among college students,which has a huge negative impact on their mental health,learning and work,interpe rsonal communication,and behavior disposition.Recent studies have found the phenomenon and still obtained no effective solution.Life satisfaction is an imp ortant index to measure the quality of life among college students,which is cl osely related to boredom.Therefore,based on embodied cognition,this researc h explores effective ways to deal with boredom disposition and to improve life satisfaction,so as to provide guidance to and suggestions on college students’ mental health.This research is divided into two studies.The first study is to investigate525 college students in Guangzhou University by questionnaires,including Phys ical Exercise Scale,Boredom Proneness and Life Satisfaction Scale,exploring t he impact of physical exercise on boredom disposition and life satisfaction fro m a horizontal perspective.The other one is an intervention study.A total of84 college students in Guangzhou were divided into control group(n=41)and experimental group(n=43).The experimental group was asked to keep moderat e physical exercise as a intervention for 12 weeks,three times a week,30-45 minutes each time,the amount of physical exercise was supervised in activity t rackers.While the control group had no request during 12 weeks.The differen ces of participants in both groups was compared before and post intervention.The main conclusions in this research are as follows:(1)College students have insufficient amount of physical exercise.The am ount of physical exercise is significantly different among male and female,and single child and non-single child;the amount of exercise for male was larger than that for female,and one for single-child students was larger than that fo r non single-child students.(2)Life satisfaction of college students is in the middle level,and is signi ficantly different among students from different locations;life satisfaction in u rban have higher than that in rural.(3)Boredom proneness had no difference between male students and fem ale students,single-child students and non single-child students,even among st udents with different majors.But there were significantly difference among stud ents from different locations and different education background.(4)Physical exercise,life satisfaction and boredom proneness had significa nt correlation with one other,of which a positive correlation was seen between physical exercise and life satisfaction,a negative correlation was seen between physical exercise and boredom proneness,even life satisfaction and boredom proneness.(5)Life satisfaction plays a mediating role between physical exercise and boredom proneness.The mediating effect accounts for 43.75% of the total effect.Physical exercise can reduce the level of boredom proneness by improving coll ege students’ life satisfaction.(6)the effect of physical exercise intervened on boredom proneness of c ollege students is 1.138,which is a large effect(d>0.8),and the intervention e ffect on life satisfaction is 0.980,which is a large effect(d>0.8).Physical exer cise can effectively reduce the level of boredom proneness of college students and improve the degree of life satisfaction.The intervention is enough effecti ve to have a practical guidance.It is an effective intervention to be applied to psychological healthy education. |
