On Qi Song’s Filial Piety Theory

The thesis begins with the "filial piety" of Qi Song regarding as the "Da Xiao",and explains the basic content of his filial piety by interpreting the theory and practice of filial piety theory,then,it also explores the basis and way for Qi Song to talk and interpret the filial piety.It divided into three chapters:The first chapter is the meaning of Qi Song’s discussion on "filial piety".Firstly,he emphasizes that Buddhism includes "filial piety",and "filial piety" was given great importance as the basis of life.Secondly,he expounds the thought of "filial piety was named precept" in the Brahmajala Sutta,putting forward the view of Shouxiao and Guangxiao with saying “filial piety is the premise of the precept” and “precept includes filial piety”,the former of which appreciates filial piety as a basis,and the latter emphasizes the extensiveness of precept.In his view,practicing filial piety means keeping precepts,and keeping precepts must be performed in filial piety.He believes that filial piety and precept should be combined rather than striped away from one another.The second chapter involves Qi Song’s view of practicing filial piety.According to him,practicing filial piety should be based on the theory of it,and keeping sincerity throughout the whole process.There are varies of ways to practice filial piety,but the best way is to enrich our parents’ knowledge by Buddhism,which is called "Da Xiao".It does not deny that Qi Song looks down upon filial piety in daily world,in contrast,he emphasizes the unity of filial piety of transcedental and mundane.He thinks that practicing filial piety will surely bring out a blessing,and "to receive the blessing requires the practice of filial piety,however,the best way is to observe the precepts".The third chapter explains the basis and interpretation path for Qi Song to explore filial piety.He thinks that "precept" and "filial piety" are deeply related,which is attributed to "goodness",and "goodness" stems from "true intention" and "natural instincts".On the basis of inheriting the predecessors’ philosophy of filial piety,contrasting and combining of Confucianism and Buddhism,he clearly advocated that Confucianism and Buddhism should be connected,and the proper path of interpretation is "explaining Buddhism with the help of Confucianism" and "influencing Confucianism on the Buddhism".
