A Report On Financial News Trans-editing From The Perspective Of Communication Theories

Communication is an information transferring activity carried out between two independent systems through specific media or channels.News trans-editing is an intercultural activity dominated by translators who render the news from source language into target language for the purpose of achieving effective exchange of information.News trans-editing and communication are essentially the same,both of which involve the processing and exchange of information.As a discipline that focuses on human communication activities and laws,communication science has important theoretical significance for exploring translation and other human information exchange behaviors.This report selects 20 financial news from The Economist in 2018 as the target of translation practice.Based on the 5W model put forward by Lasswell,the report first integrates all aspects of financial news translating and analyzes the translating process from such perspectives as subject,content,media,reader and effect.And then the report analyzes the focuses and difficulties of financial news translating.Finally,the report discusses and summarizes the strategies adopted in the financial news trans-editing from the angles of the translator,the media and the reader.In order to effectively spread the translated news,the translator is supposed to observe the following suggestions.First,the translator should ensure the accuracy of the translated text,and then properly process the source text according to the readers’ demands and expectations by making full use of the translator’s subjectivity.Second,the translator should take into account the stylistic equivalence and the audience awareness,and at the same time be flexible in the choice of words and the organization of the text structure in accordance with the language differences between English and Chinese.Third,on the premise of faithfully transferring the information of the source text,the translator should take full advantage of the target language and enhance the readability of the translated text.
