An Internship Report On Transediting Chinese News Into English At Newsgd.com

With the emergence of online media,English news websites,by virtue of their advantages in language and medium,have gradually become one of the important channels for China to improve its capacity of international communication.Since the important national news websites,such as,people.cn,xinhuanet.com and chinadaily.com.cn have established their English version,more and more local government portals have followed suit.Although English news websites have made big achievements,there are still many problems in their development,especially those at local levels.As a part of English news production,news transediting plays an important role in the development of English news websites.Therefore,focusing on how to improve the quality and efficiency of news transediting at local English news websites is of great theoretical and practical significance.Based on the author's news transediting practice at the Newsgd.com from January to May in 2016,this report will introduce the detailed information about the internship,and mainly focus on analyzing the linguistic and text-specific problems encountered in the practical process.To tackle these problems,transediting strategies,such as,deletion and addition,generalization,specification,restructuring,transference and domestication,have been adopted with many examples shared in the report.Based on the internship experience and follow-up research,the author concludes with a news transediting brief or manual for English news websites to train new staff and interns.
